My poor baby girl had a rash show up on her tummy on Thursday after swimming. We thought since it didn't itch that perhaps it was a reaction to the chemicals in the pool or the new bubble bath. The next morning she still acted fine and the rash seemed to have fade. By Friday night, her feet and fingers were swelling and her whole body was covered in raised bumps. Her skin felt like sandpaper.
Benedryl didn't seem to budge it and after talking to a pharmacist at CVS just before closing we decided we'd risk the Urgent Care at 10 PM on a Friday night. We got a confirmed case of scarlet fever and strep throat. Carli was a champ, she never complained and by the next morning though the rash was still there, she was acting fine.
We had her checked up at our pedi a few days later and were told the rash would probably hang around for a bit and eventually peel. And man did her poor hands peel. They did not look pretty. :( But we survived. And that's how Carli somehow managed to avoid strep throat the three times Ava has had it but then contracted a nastier version of the infection all on her own. Individualism is apparently being fostered around here...even when it comes to sickness!
